Speaker:
Volunteers from the Penicuik Development Trus
Date/Time:
Wednesday 7th October 2026 @ 1:45 PM
Hosted by:
IET Scotland South East
- About this event:
- Learn why Penicuik was once the papermaking capital of the world, track the rise and fall of the mills along the River Esk, and view the many papermaking exhibits. Visitors can also learn how paper is made and then make a sheet themselves.
- Why attend this event:
- The visit will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of an industry, centred on Penicuik and along the river Esk. It had massive economic importance and environmental impact but it has now disappeared leaving little evidence of its massive scale and international importance.
- Who should attend:
- Anyone with an interest in local history and the history of manufacturing
Events are open to IET members and any other colleagues wishing to attend.
