The Cavity Magnetron, key to the success of WW2 airborne RADAR

Following the independent development of radar in many countries from 1934-9 there was a need to efficiently achieve high power microwave energy to enable the transition from land based into airborne radar. The presentation will feature cavity magnetron based radars as used in naval corvettes, B17 flying fortress bombers as well as introduce the British H2S radar.

Visit Edinburgh University Digitisation and Making Service

The visit is to the Digitising and Making Services team at the University of Edinburgh. It will give the opportunity to visit the Service's three physical locations: the photography studio, the makerspace and the AV digitisation studio. Please note that he tour will take up to two hours on foot with little or no opportunity to sit and access to the photography studio is up a flight of stairs.
