This technical awareness talk introduces students and young engineers to the core engineering lifecycle of residential grid-connected solar PV systems. The session begins with the fundamental operating principles of solar cells and their seamless integration with the localized utility grid. Moving from theory to practical application, the presentation breaks down the engineering workflows for component selection, focusing heavily on matching PV array capacity with inverter specifications, calculating string sizing, and mitigating clipping or clipping losses. Finally, the discussion bridges engineering with finance, mapping out the economic drivers of solar adoption.

As Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption grows, ensuring safe and compliant charger installation is critical to protecting life and property. This technical presentation highlights the key safety considerations for EV charging infrastructure, emphasizing adherence to local and international standards, including Brunei's Department of Electrical Services (DES) Electrical Installation Requirements (EIR), the ESCOM Guidelines on EV Infrastructure, and the IET Wiring Regulations. Attendees will learn how proper installation practices and correct material selection prevent severe electrical risks such as distribution thermal buildup, arc flash, insulation failure, thermal breakdown, and fatal electric shocks.
