Generative AI and Quantum Computing - Future Challenges for Cyber Security

Quantum technology is transforming security networks by introducing qubit-based architecture, which can outperform traditional computers in solving complex problems. These quantum computers can tackle encryption systems that would typically take conventional computers decades to crack. This advancement has sparked a focus on developing post-quantum cryptography, a new level of encryption designed to safeguard data from the power of quantum computing.

Net Zero Vs The Data Centres

How the rise in demand for data and computing effects our aspirations for a Net Zero energy system. Now with the meteoric introduction of AI applications, Data Centres are outgrowing their humble beginnings. Massive scale up is underway to support ever more powerful AI, requiring vast Data Centre campuses, large enough to justify their own nuclear reactors. Where does all this leave our plans for Net Zero?

Where are all the nuclear fusion power plants?

In the late 1960's it was predicted that within 20 years we would have commercial fusion reactors, generating power that was so cheap it would almost be given away. Today, some 55 years later, there is still no commercial power plant using nuclear fusion. But are things about to change?

Unravelling RF Orbital Angular Momentum

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) describes a new form of electromagnetic radio waves for use in radio frequency (RF) communications. Unravelling OAM into a new concept, linear angular momentum multiplexing (LAMM), provides useful new opportunities particularly for wireless connectivity in tunnels. Tim will describe this seminal work and its future potential.
