Managing Technical Safety - Protecting People, the Environment & Reputations.

By robustly managing Technical Safety, we seek to minimise the chances of an asset causing harm (to people, the environment or commercially) throughout its lifecycle. The lecture will outline a concise engineering framework to facilitate the delivery of favourable Technical Safety outcomes, whilst supporting Reliable, Available & Maintainable (RAM) assets... so win-win? The talk considers regulatory frameworks in which we operate and examines what can happen if Technical Safety is compromised.

However, the Trans-pennine Route Upgrade has followed a different approach, with Static Frequency Converters connecting and electronically controlling power flow. The first, at Hambleton Junction, entered service last year.
