Technical Talk: Low Voltage Installations - From 17th to 18th Edition: Aligning EIR 2011 with Current Wiring Regulations

The presentation traces the full regulatory evolution across 14 years of amendments, examining what changed in each successive edition (Amendments 1-3 of the 17th Edition, and Amendments 1-4 of the 18th Edition), and maps those changes to specific clauses in the EIR that require updating. Key compliance gaps addressed include: - RCD protection expanded from socket outlets - Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) becoming mandatory in most installations - Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs) now required for socket circuits - 32A in high-risk premises - Metal/non-combustible enclosures mandated for consumer units (Reg. 421.1.201) - New sections required for EV charging, prosumer/PV installations, and energy efficiency - Certification forms (Appendices 11A-11C) to be replaced with BS 7671 Appendix 6 formats
