"Skylab was Americas first space station and paved the way for much that followed. The launch of Skylab very nearly ended in complete disaster, but it was rescued by a huge effort across the US. The mission went on to revolutionise the field of solar astronomy and to make huge strides in our understanding of the effects of spaceflight .."
