Behind the Rails: A Technical Visit to the Metro Express Depot
Speaker:
Metro Express Ltd MEL
Date/Time:
Saturday 29th August 2026 @ 9:00 AM
- About this event:
- Discover how a modern light rail system is kept safe, reliable and ready for passenger service every day. This IET technical visit takes members behind the scenes of MEL's Richelieu depot, the operational heart of the Metro Express network, for a guided walkthrough covering rolling stock inspection, maintenance, stabling, track, traction power and signalling.
- Why attend this event:
- The session spans several engineering disciplines relevant to IET members, including electrical, mechanical and systems engineering, and offers a rare look at how these disciplines integrate in a live rail operation. Attendees will walk through the depot's key maintenance areas - stabling, inspection bays, light and heavy maintenance - and hear from the engineering staff on how a train moves through maintenance between passenger runs. - Mandatory PPE - safety footwear (bring your own boots) - No prior railway background needed
- Who should attend:
Events are open to IET members and any other colleagues wishing to attend.
